Free School Meals

Moving from Year 6 to Year 7 is a big leap, and in Hertfordshire, this transition also marks a change in how Free School Meals (FSM) are managed. To ensure your child continues to receive their entitlement without interruption, please take note of the following updates for the 2026/27 academic year.

Re-application is Mandatory

Even if your child was eligible for Free School Meals in Primary School, you must re-apply for the transition to Secondary School.

• Why? Eligibility does not automatically "roll over" between school phases (Primary to Secondary).

• The Rule: Under the new Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) and DfE guidelines, all pupils moving into Year 7 must have their eligibility re-verified to continue receiving meals.
